Soundtrack to My Life

Tue Feb 24, 2009, 12:09 AM
Soundtrack of your Life
If your life was a movie, what would the Soundtrack be like?

and that's the way it goes:
1. Fire up your music player (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc)
2. Set it to "Shuffle"
3. Press "Play"
4. For every question, write down the song that's being played
5. for every new question, press "Next"
6. DON'T LIE ;p

(Ok, here we go....)

Opening credits:
"Behold! The Night Mare" - Smashing Pumpkins (Jeez, that's depressing.)

Awakening:
"Cinnamon Girl" - Neil Young (True, true.)

Childhood:
"Jack-Ass" - Beck (Must be referring to my ex-stepdad.)

First Day of School:
"Crucify" - Tori Amos (How apt.)

First Big Love:
"I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow" - The Soggy Bottom Boys (Boy, got *that* right.)

Fight-Song:
"Hammering in My Head" - Garbage (Good, good.)

Graduation:
"Monty Got a Raw Deal" - R.E.M. (I wouldn't know; I didn't go to school with him.)

Prom:
"I Don't Feel Like Dancin'" - Scissor Sisters (Must be my junior prom.)

Life is Great:
"Angela Undress" - Thomas Newman (Sounds good.)

Mental Breakdown:
"When I'm Down" - Chris Cornell (Appropriate.)

Car Ride:
"Aeroplane" - Red Hot Chili Peppers (No, car ride.)

Review:
"Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own" - U2 (True.)

Get Together With Your Big Love:
"Don't Get Lost in Heaven" - Gorillaz (Useful reminder.)

Marriage:
"Baby I'm Gonna Leave You" - Led Zeppelin (I should warn women in advance, it's true.)

Sex scene:
"Bang and Blame" - R.E.M. (Another warning I should give, I guess..)

Birth of your First Child:
"What If We Give It Away" - R.E.M. (Probably a good idea, if it's mine.)

Funeral:
"Erased, Over, Out" - Nine Inch Nails (Appropriate.)

End Credits:
"The Rise and Fall of Ooo Mau" - Primitive Radio Gods (Hmmm.)

First of all, you obviously eat way too much Ramen. Second of all, your shuffle seems to know you pretty well. But, then, we should ALL give our children away. (I really liked your moss & rocks shot).

WHAT? Ramen is one of the two basic food groups for people employed by the telecommunications industry!

And the iPod does know me much too well. Sometimes it reveals my deepest secrets ... I keep threatening to trade it for a cheap flash-drive mp3 player, but will it listen? No ....

You're very welcome for the :+fav:s ... if you stopped submitting good work I don't know what I'd do ... it would be the end of one of the little nuggets of joy in the long grey wasteland of my work day. (Lately, I've been checking DA while at work.)

And I say, what's the point of putting boring crap on the iPod? Monster must be one of my all-time favorite albums ... I've been listening to it for fifteen years and still pull it out once or twice a month.

Who is "we"?

ha ha have you looked at my early stuff? I keep it up to remind myself that DA has taught me well  love this community.

I work from home some days and find myself here more then there .. just to hard to resist. I like that " nuggets of joy" :boogie:
What do you do that sounds so dreary?

" we" as in the collective we from DA  I am going to do this and see what clever answers I come up with.. not sure I want to reveal myself so boldly though

Gotcha ... I'll keep my eyes on your journal in the near future. I want to see what clever answers your mp3 player comes up with.

I haven't dug all the way back through your gallery but will look at the early stuff in the near future. (It probably won't be tonight, though.) I certainly do like what I have seen of your work, though.

What I do? ... for work, I assume you mean. I'm going back to school this fall, but until then I'm the night manager at an answering service. It's a high-stress, low-pay, no-benefits job where only mistakes get noticed. Last week I took 1335 calls; 1333 were handled impeccably. Did I hear about them? No; I got disciplinary paperwork to fill out on the other two. Ugh. I keep saying "four more months" to myself throughout the work day. Meanwhile, the boss is constantly reminding everyone how lucky they are to have their part-time, near-minimum wage jobs at all in the current economy.

I have to stop now or I'll keep going on all night. :)

Thank you again for the support and encouragement. Have I mentioned that I really like your work?

ha ha I worked at a call center for about a year, the only thing that kept me sane was the great sense of humor the team had. plus we also were able to collaborate with Fraud, which at the time, was uber exciting to me.. criminals ain't so dumb LOL

whatcha going back to school for? If I can ask?

Doing my ipod thing right now...

Yeah ... that is the one thing I really do like about my job: My co-workers are amazing people. Still, I'll be glad to be moving on. :)

You can certainly ask. I'll be entering the MA/Ph.D. program in English literature at UC Santa Barbara in the fall. After the last few years, I have a much better sense of how lucky I'm going to be to be a professional academic and spending my time on something I'm passionate about. I've spent the last few years scraping the bottom of the employment barrel. Of course, in rural Oregon, the barrel is all bottom. :)

Looking forward to seeing your music survey thingy.
